FIX: Error message on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer that has the Server for NFS component installed: "STOP 0x0000008E" or "STOP 0x00000024"

Symptoms

On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer that has the Server for Network File System (NFS) component of Microsoft Services for NFS installed, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:
  • STOP 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xb24084ea , 0xb413080c, 0x00000000 )
    Note You receive this error message when you try to rename a file.
  • STOP 0x00000024 (0x0019033c, 0xb53c86e4 , 0xb53c83e0, 0xb54a64ea )
    Note You receive this error message when you run a backup operation on an NFS share.
Notes
  • The results of a Stop error message may vary, depending on the system failure settings of the computer.
  • The parameter values may vary, depending on the computer configuration.
  • Not all "STOP 0x0000008E" error messages or "STOP 0x00000024" error messages are caused by the problem that is described in this article.
