Error message when you try to play the World of Warcraft game in Windows Vista: "Display driver stopped responding"


When you try to play the World of Warcraft game by Blizzard Entertainment on a computer that is running Windows Vista, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Display driver stopped responding


This problem may occur because the video card driver is incompatible with Windows Vista.


To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Determine the video card driver version. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start  Start button  , type dxdiag in the Start Search box, and then click dxdiag in the Programs list.

      The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens.
    2. In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click the Display tab.

      The video card's name and the video card's manufacturer are listed under Device. The driver version is listed under Drivers.
  2. Update the video card driver. To download an updated video card driver, visit the following Blizzard Entertainment Web site:Note Make sure that you follow all the instructions on the manufacturer's Web site about how to remove the current drivers and how to install the updated software. For example, Nvidia recommends using the Windows Add or Remove Programs utility to remove Nvidia drivers, and ATI has a driver removal utility which you can download.
