An e-mail message incorrectly appears in the Drafts folder in Outlook when you use an interaction to create the e-mail message in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0

Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision 4.0 and Microsoft Navision 4.0 are now part of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0. All references to Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision or to Microsoft Navision 4.0 relate to Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0. You use an interaction to create an e-mail message. The e-mail message contains an attachment. Then, you send the e-mail message. In this scenario, the e-mail message incorrectly appears in the Drafts folder in Microsoft Office Outlook. Additionally, if you do not use Microsoft Exchange Server as the e-mail transport provider in Outlook, you receive the following error message:
Runtime Error!
Therefore, you have to manually send the e-mail message from the Drafts folder. However, the e-mail message should be sent automatically. Additionally, the e-mail message is supposed to appear in the Sent Items folder in Outlook.

Resolution

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. The hotfix corrects the problem that is described in this article. Apply the hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

You must have Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 Service Pack 3 and Update 1 for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 Service Pack 3 installed to apply this hotfix.

Removal information

You cannot remove this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted to restart the computer, you must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

How to obtain the Microsoft Dynamics NAV hotfix or update files

After you request a Microsoft Dynamics NAV hotfix or an update file from Technical Support for Microsoft Dynamics, a hyperlink will be sent to you in an e-mail.


The e-mail will contain a hyperlink and a password. You can use the hyperlink to download the Microsoft Dynamics NAV hotfix or the update files. When you click the hyperlink, the File Download – Security Warning dialog box opens. Then, you are prompted to run, to save, or to cancel the download.


If you click Run, the files start the download and the extraction process. You must specify a folder for the new files, and then provide the password.


If you click Save, you must specify a path for saving the compressed file. When you open the file that you saved, you are prompted to specify a path for the files. You must then provide the password provided in the e-mail.


If you click Cancel, the download process stops.

How to install a Microsoft Dynamics NAV hotfix or an update file

The Microsoft Dynamics NAV platform hotfixes and updates are made available as single files. To install a Microsoft Dynamics NAV hotfix or an update, you must replace the existing Microsoft Dynamics NAV installation files with the hotfix or with the update files.


If you have the Microsoft Dynamics NAV client installed, you must replace the following files in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV client installation.

Note The Microsoft Dynamics NAV client is usually installed in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\Client\
To replace the existing Microsoft Dynamics NAV files, follow these steps:
  1. Unregister the existing Olhandler.dll file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
    regsvr32.exe -u "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\Client\Olhandler.dll"
  2. Copy the Olhandler.dll file from the hotfix file to the following directory:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\Client\
  3. Register the new Olhandler.dll file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
    regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\Client\Olhandler.dll"

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
