Error message when you try to run an SSIS package in SQL Server 2008: "The package cannot execute because it contains tasks that failed to load"

Symptoms

When you try to run a SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) package that contains a script task in Microsoft SQL Server 2008, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Error: date_time
Code: 0xC0024107

Source: Fail!
Description: There were errors during task validation.

End Error

Error: date_time
Code: 0xC0010025

Source: name
Description: The package cannot execute because it contains tasks that failed to load.

End Error

DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1).

Cause

This problem occurs if Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications is not installed.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install Visual Studio Tools for Applications.

Note Visual Studio Tools for Applications is installed when you install Business Intelligence Development Studio.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Install SQL Server 2008, including Integration Services.
  2. Create an SSIS package that includes a script task.
  3. Uninstall Visual Studio Tools for Applications.
  4. Use the DTEXEC command to run the SSIS package. You receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
