After you add the Terminal Server role service under the Terminal Services role on your SBS 2008 standard server or Server #1 in SBS 2008 Premium, you may get the following error after the component manager completes or when you try to change the Terminal Services licensing mode from Remote Desktop for Administration to any other mode.
Furthermore, the following links will not launch correctly and cause the SBS console to crash:
• In the Users tab: "Purchase additional client access licenses"
• In the Computers tab: "Purchase additional client access licenses"
• In the Networking, connectivity tab: "Manage Router" (several locations under properties)
• In the Shared Folders tab: "Browse any of the shares"
Installing the Terminal Server service on SBS 2008 Standard or Server #1 in SBS 2008 Premium is not supported and will not work, even though it appears to install it is not designed to work on the SBS 2008 standard server (or Server #1 in SBS 2008 Premium). This server will only allow 2 administrative connections using remote desktop for administration, no matter how the Terminal Server service or RDP listener are configured.
Other services under the Terminal Services role, such as TS Gateway, TS Web Access or TS Licensing will install and operate fine, they are fully supported.
You must remove the Terminal Server service from the SBS 2008 standard server (or Server #1 in SBS 2008 Premium) to regain proper functionality of the SBS console.
You can do so by opening Server Manager, expanding Roles, and selecting the Terminal Services role. On the right hand side pane, select Remove Role Services and uncheck the Terminal Server role, click Next and Remove to complete the wizard.
If you want to implement the Terminal Server service in order to host multiple user desktops on the same server, you can use the 2nd server provided with SBS 2008 Premium or purchase a separate server license to implement it.
