When the Hyper-V role is installed in the Small Business Server 2008 host operating system it causes the bindings for DHCP created in wizards to bind to the incorrect network interface.
Normally, the wizard expects there to only be one network interface present and binds DHCP to that network interface. If the Hyper-V role is installed on the Small Business Server 2008 then the wizard chooses that virtual network interface to bind to. This causes the DHCP server not to be able to receive and reply to those requests.
The resolution is not to install the Hyper-v role on the Small Business Server 2008 installation.
1. Install Small Business Server 2008.
2. Install the Hyper-V role on the Small Business Server 2008 installation.
3. Run the Connect to the Internet Wizard.
4. Then try to obtain an address from the client machine
