Symptom



When trying to establish a terminal session to a Windows 2003 x64 Terminal Server you receive the following error:






Windows Product Activation




A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer.  Error Code: 0x80040057


The following error event may also be logged in the event log:

Event Source:    Windows Product Activation
Event Category: None
Event ID:          1000
Description:  An error occurred while the wizard was checking the current Windows product license. Error Code: 0x80040057

Cause



Available system resources, load and timing are contributing factors to the error condition. The condition should be temporary and the error condition cleared upon client connect retry.

Resolution



Microsoft is aware of this issue and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
