Problem description
This article helps you enable or disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for Office applications.
To have us enable or disable DEP for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. To enable or disable DEP yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

Fix it for me
To enable or disable DEP automatically, click the
Fix itbutton or link. Click
Runin the
File Downloaddialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.
Note this wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
Note if you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.
Next, go to the "Did this fix the problem?" section.

Let me fix it myself

To enable DEP for Office applications, follow these steps:- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press Enter.
- Type the following command at the command prompt and then press Enter:
sdbinst.exe –q "<path_to_extracted_SDB>\Office – Enable DEP.sdb"
To disable DEP for Office applications, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press Enter.
- Type the following command at the command prompt and then press Enter:
sdbinst.exe –q -u "<path_to_extracted_SDB>\Office – Enable DEP.sdb"
