Chkdsk Reports an Erroneous Event ID 41

When you run chkdsk <drive_letter>: /f
, you may receive the followingevent in the system event log:
Event ID: 41
Description: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the device Device\Harddiskx\Partitionx with label "xxxx".
NOTE: The "xxxx" is the volume label of the partition.
Chkdsk reports the wrong text message in the event log. The message shouldread:
"Autochk will be run on this volume because user has selected it."
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. Weare researching this problem and will post new information here in theMicrosoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
