If you paste or paste link a Microsoft Excel 97 chart object from itsown chart sheet into a PowerPoint 97 slide, the object is cropped andthe legend may not appear. This symptom does not occur when you pastea Microsoft Excel 97 chart object that is embedded on a worksheet intoa PowerPoint 97 slide. This behavior occurs when you are using theMicrosoft Windows NT operating system; it does not occur when you areusing Windows 95.
To work around this behavior use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Reduce Chart Size Before Copying
To reduce the chart size before you copy it, follow these steps:
In Microsoft Excel, click to select the white area around the edge of the Microsoft Excel chart.
The chart area should be selected.
Drag a corner sizing handle toward the center of the object until the chart area is approximately 75 percent of its original size.
Select the legend, if present. Move it closer to the plot area.
Click anywhere in the worksheet to cancel the selection.
When you use the copy and paste operation, the entire chart pastesonto the PowerPoint slide.
Method 2: Change View Option in Excel
To change the view option in Excel, follow these steps:
In the chart window, click Size with Window on the View menu.
This option controls whether the size of a chart sheet is dependent on,or independent of the window size. By default, a newly created chart sheet is independent of the window size.
Use the copy and paste operation to paste the entire chart onto the PowerPoint slide.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
