To hear a sound when new mail arrives, do the following:
From the Tools menu, select Options.
Click the General tab in the Microsoft Exchange Client, or click the E-mail tab in the Microsoft Outlook Client.
Select the Play a Sound check box.
If the Play a Sound option still does not work, check to make sure the NewMail Notification event is listed in the Control Panel Sounds dialog box.To do this, run Control Panel and click the Sounds icon.
The New Mail Notification event will not be listed if the appropriateentries for Mailbeep are missing from the registry.
To add the New Mail Notification event, you need to make changesto the registry.
WARNING: Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problemsthat may require you to reinstall Windows 95 or Windows NT. Microsoftcannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of theRegistry Editor can be solved. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.You should make a backup copy of the registry files System.dat and User.datbefore you edit the registry.
Follow these steps to add the Mailbeep setting and associated sound formailbeep:
Close any programs that are running.
On the Start menu, click Run. Type regedit and click OK.
In the Registry Editor, expand the following key:
On the Edit menu, click New and select Key.
With New Key #1 selected, type Mailbeep, and then press ENTER.
With the Key Mailbeep selected, on the Edit menu, click New and select String Value.
With New String Value #1 selected, type (Default), and then press ENTER.
With the (Default) entry selected, click Edit and Modify, and type in the value data New Mail Notification, and then press ENTER.
