Under heavy file I/O, such as during backup or heavy file sharing, WindowsNT 4.0 will display a blue screen stop message with a STOP 0x00000024 inNTFS.sys or a Stop 0x0000000A in NTOSKRNL.exe. For example:
Ntfs.sys releases the file object when accessing a file with a large numberof security descriptors.

On uniprocessor Compaq computers running Compaq's System Manager driver,Sysmgmt.sys, the system may fail to reboot after you install a post-SP3Hotfix Ntoskrnl.exe dated 11/20/97 or later. The system will stopresponding (hang) at the blue screen listing the Windows NT version andservice pack information. Obtain the latest version of Sysmgmt.sys fromCompaq to resolve this problem.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
