CSNW: Unable to Rename File on NetWare Server

Symptoms
When trying to rename files that are greater than 130 characters usingClient Services for NetWare (CSNW) from a Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0system, you may receive the following error message:

Cannot rename <filename>.
The filename you specified is invalid or too long.
Specify a different filename.


This problem is likely to manifest itself in applications that use the"save to temporary file, delete original, and rename the temporary file"process of saving changes to files.
Resolution
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in theMicrosoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
