When you view your Windows 98-based computer's Musical Instrument DeviceInterface (MIDI) output devices in Multimedia properties, a default MIDIoutput device may be missing from the Single Instrument box. Note that youmay still be able to play MIDI files.
This issue can occur if you replace the Windows 98 Windows Driver Model(WDM) driver for your sound card with a virtual device driver (VxD) foryour sound card.
To resolve this issue, manually configure your default MIDI output device. To do so, use the following steps:
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Multimedia.
Click the MIDI tab, click the MIDI playback device you want to use as the default device, click Apply, and then click OK.
