When you replace text formatted as a hyperlink with new text, the UniformResource Locator (URL) does not change; only the display text changes. Forexample, if you type the following URL in a Microsoft Word 98 MacintoshEdition documentboth the hyperlink and the display text are http://www.microsoft.com.

However, if you change your mind, select the URL link, and typethe underlying link remains http://www.microsoft.com, but the display textis now http://www.msn.com.
The hyperlink feature in Microsoft Word 98 is designed to automaticallycreate a hyperlink object when you type text that begins with any of thefollowing protocols:
As part of this design, you can change the display text by selecting thehyperlink and typing the new text. However, to change the URL, you need toopen the Edit Hyperlink dialog box.
To work around this behavior, hold down CONTROL and click the hyperlink, point to Hyperlink on the menu, and click Edit Hyperlink. Then, type a newURL in the Link To File Or URL box.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft productslisted at the beginning of this article.
