If you run a Data Transformation Services (DTS) package using the userpassword instead of the owner password, DTSRun will not report a failureunless the package is set to fail on the first failed step.
This problem occurs because the user does not have permission to read thepackage status after it is run. This is not the case if it is scheduledwith an owner password. This can be easily seen if the package isscheduled, but also happens in a batch job if you look for errorlevel afterthe run.
To work around this problem, set the DTS package to report a failure on thefirst failed step, by doing the following:
Open the Package Designer window for the package.
On the Package menu, click Properties.
In the Error Handling section of the DTS Package Properties dialog box, click to select the Fail Package On First Error check box.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
