Attempting to pair a Bluetooth mobile phone may fail on some slower systems.

When running Windows 7 on systems with lower end processors (for example Intel Celeron or AMD Sempron) you may not be able to successfully pair older Bluetooth mobile phones with the system. This can be seen especially when the pairing is initiated from within Windows rather than directly from the phone.

It should be noted that if you experience this problem you will not be presented with every pairing option as you progress through the "Add a device" Bluetooth pairing wizard in Windows. The below "Select a pairing option" will fail to appear. If you are not presented with this dialog please use the recommended resolution below.

Depending on the region the mobile phone was meant for and depending on the Bluetooth version used for in the mobile phone there can be different lengths of PIN codes used for securing the Bluetooth connection. Windows 7 by default generates longer 8 digit PIN codes to make a more secure connection. By default these mobile phones generate either 4 or 6 digit PIN codes.

During the pairing process initiated from within Windows 7 there is a timing issue on slower systems causing the phone to be unpairable.

The current recommended workaround is to initiate the pairing process from the mobile phone itself generating a 4 digit PIN and manually pair the mobile phone with Windows.
