Generic ASP.NET Performance Counters Only Report Data from ASP.NET 4 Applications after ASP.NET 4 is Installed

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.

After installing ASP.NET 4, the generic ASP.NET performance counters will only report data from ASP.NET 4 applications.  If the generic performance counters are used against ASP.NET 1.1, ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET 3.5 applications the performance counters will not report any data.

The generic ASP.NET performance counters include the following performance counter categories:  "ASP.NET" and "ASP.NET Applications".

The versioned ASP.NET performance categories have names like "ASP.NET v2.0.50727" and "ASP.NET Apps v2.0.50727."
Generic performance counter categories always refer to the latest version of ASP.NET installed on a machine.
It is necessary to use the versioned performance counter categories when collecting performance data from multiple ASP.NET applications running different versions of ASP.NET.
