You cannot install the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) through the Office 2000 Setup program. There is a separate Setup program that you use to install the MSDE.
To install the MSDE, follow these steps.
NOTE: You can install the MSDE only from versions of Office 2000 that contain Microsoft Access.
NOTE: Unlike SQL Server 7.0, the MSDE has a 2-gigabyte database size limit, doesn't support Symmetrical Multiprocessing (SMP) on Windows 95 or later, and when using Transactional replication, can't be a replication publisher (although it can act as a replication subscriber).
For more information about the Microsoft Data Engine, click Microsoft Access Help on the Help menu, type work with a Microsoft Access project in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
