"The e-mail address policy object is invalid because it contains invalid E-mail address templates" error message when you try to edit an email address policy in an Exchange Server 2007 environment

Symptoms
When you try to edit an email address policy in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment, you receive the following error message:
The e-mail address policy object "<Your E-mail Address Policy>" is invalid because it contains invalid E-mail address templates: 'MS:Domain/OU','CCMAIL: at SiteProdyName. To view details of the error, see the application event log in the windows Event Viewer on the Microsoft Server computer."
Cause
This issue occurs because the email address policy contains an email address template that uses the Microsoft Mail (MS Mail) or CC:Mail email address format. However, Exchange Server 2007 does not support these legacy email address formats.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, use the Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) Edit snap-in to remove the MS Mail or CC:Mail email address format from the Recipient Policiescontainer. To do this, follow these steps.

Note If you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects by using the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP client, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows Server and Exchange Server. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur when you incorrectly modify attributes of Active Directory objects can be resolved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type Adsiedit.msc, and then click OK.
  3. Right-click ADSI Edit, and then click Connect to.
  4. In the Select a well know Naming Context list, select Default naming context. In the Select or type a domain or server box, type the FQDN of a Domain Controller server, and then click OK.
  5. Expand Configuration [dc.domain.com], expand CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com, expand CN=Services, expand CN=Microsoft Exchange, expand CN=<Your Organization>, and then click CN=Recipient Policies.
  6. In the action pane, right-click CN=<The name of the Recipient policy>, and then select Properties.
  7. In the Attributes list, double-click gatewayProxy, click the value that begins with MS or CCMail, click Remove, and then click OK.
  8. In the Attributes list, double-click DisabledgatewayProxy, click the value that begins with MS or CCMail, click Remove, and then click OK.
