This article was previously published under Q228001
SYMPTOMS
When you view your network adapter in Device Manager, you may see a yellow exclamation point next to your network adapter, and if you view its properties, you may receive the following error message:
This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)
Try upgrading the device drivers for this device.
NOTE: The error message you receive may differ slightly from this one.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if your network adapter is not seated properly, or does not have a network cable connected to it. Note that most network adapters do not need a network cable connection to operate correctly in Device Manager.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, verify that your network adapter is seated properly, has a network cable connected to it, and then obtain and install the most current driver for your network adapter. For information about how to obtain and install the most current driver for your network adapter, view the documentation included with your network adapter, or contact the manufacturer of your network adapter.
