When you try to activate an Office for Mac 2011 trial version, you receive one of the error messages that is described in the "Resolution" section.

Issue 1: You receive one of the following error messages when you try to activate the trial version:
Online activation did not complete successfully because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. You can try to access the server again.
Online activation did not complete successfully because you are not connected to the Internet.
Make sure that you have an open Internet connection that is correctly configured. To do this, follow these steps:
On the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
On the View menu, click Network. "Status" should be set to "On" or "Connected."
Note If you are using a wireless connection and the status is set to "Off," click the Turn Airport Off button.
Start a web browser, such as Safari, and visit a website such as www.msn.com or www.bing.com. If the site opens, again try activating the product.
