A Compatibility View list update is available for Windows Internet Explorer 8: November 23, 2010

INTRODUCTION
An update is available for the Windows Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View list that is dated November 23, 2010. This Compatibility View list update makes websites that are designed for older browsers look better in Internet Explorer 8. When you install Internet Explorer 8, you can decide whether the sites that you browse should be displayed in Compatibility View. After you install this update, you may have to restart Internet Explorer.

Note Sites that appear in the Compatibility View list are sites for which other users have clicked the Compatibility View button. This list is updated automatically. The list helps users have a better experience when they view Websites that are not yet updated for Internet Explorer 8. Known Issue

Internet Explorer 8 may not respond after you apply this update. This issue may be caused by Norton 360. To resolve this issue, try the following method:

  1. Manually & repeatedly update Norton 360 by using LiveUpdate (or Intelligent Update) until you receive a "no more updates" or similar prompt.
  2. Then reinstall KB2447568, if it is necessary.


You may also encounter the following issues when you try to install this update:
  • The update installation fails.
  • The system keeps reminding you to install this update although you already installed it.
  • The desktop does not load.

Method 1: Reset Windows Update components and then try updating your computer

To reset the Windows Update components automatically, click the Fix itbutton or link. Click Runin the File Downloaddialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Note this Fix it Solution has two modes Default and Aggressive. You should run the Fix it solution in Default mode and determine whether it resolves your problem with Windows Update before you ru it in Aggressive mode.





Note this wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

Note if you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Method 2: Manually download the update from the download link and then install it in clean boot mode
We suggest you to install the updates in clean boot mode to avoid the interruption of non-Microsoft programs. To enter clean boot mode on a computer, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
  3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
  4. Under Selective Startup, clear the Load Startup Items check box.
  5. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
  6. Click OK.
  7. When you are prompted, click Restart.
  8. Try update your computer again.
