Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a Microsoft Excel 2007 or Microsoft Excel 2010 workbook.

  • You add a connection to an instance of SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008) or SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008 R2).

  • You create a PivotTable report in the workbook.

  • You apply a complex filter in Value Filters to the PivotTable report. For example, you use a Top 10 filter that is based on at least two dimensions.

In this scenario, the PivotTable report might not return any values.

Note When you apply a filter such as a Top 10 filter, a filter that is based on more than one dimension is created. Therefore, this issue may occur when the autoexist functionality is applied.

Cause

This issue occurs because an MDX query that has a complex filter returns incorrect results if the autoexist functionality is applied on a very large set.

When the sets for the autoexist functionality result in a potential virtual output set of more than 2 billion tuples, the PivotTable report might not return any values.

Note This issue might occur only when the filter in the subselect statement applies to the hierarchies from more than one dimension.
