BUG #: 2361 (plato7x)
An incremental update of certain dimensions may fail with the following error message:
"Error (206): Processing failed"

Error 206 is a generic error for a failed processing of cubes or dimensions, which may be encountered due to various reasons. Most of the time this error displays after a specific error message such as "Error 211: Unknown Dimension Member".

However, with this particular problem, you may have one or more of the following symptoms:

  • No obvious precedence errors reported.
  • The Incremental Update only fails on certain dimensions.
  • Full processing of the problem dimensions will succeed.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0. For information about how to download and install the latest SQL Server OLAP Services Service Pack, see the following Microsoft Web site: For more information, contact your primary support provider.
