Microsoft released an updated version of Microsoft SQL Server Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Driver to support Microsoft SQL Azure Database. This updated version supersedes the release version of SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0.
This article contains more information about this updated release. Additionally, this article describes an issue with the JDBC API getSchemas method when the release version of SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0 is used.
This updated driver has version number 3.0.1301.202. This is the first update that supports SQL Azure Database after the release version of SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0.
Issue that is fixed
Cannot access schema information by using the release version of SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0The release version of SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0 is 3.0.1301.101. In version 3.0, the driver had to access the master database to obtain the schemas information for a database. This caused the getSchemas
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd571275.aspx)method not to work in some circumstances. For example, the getSchemas method will not work if the master database is inaccessible, as in SQL Azure, or if there are collation differences between the master database and other databases. After this update is applied, access to the master database is not required. The getSchemas method will work in SQL Azure and will work if there are collation differences between the master database and other databases.
If your application calls the getSchemas method by using an SQL Azure Database connection that uses this version of the SQL Server JDBC driver, you receive the following error message:
Error message: Reference to database and/or server name in 'master.sys.schemas' is not supported
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Reference to database and/or server name in 'master.sys.schemas' is not supported in this version of SQL Server.
How to obtain this updateA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
