Symptoms

When you are trying to configure the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook, you receive the following error message:

There is a problem communicating with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. The server might be unavailable. Try again later. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.

Cause

This error can occur if you try to configure a release candidate (RC) version of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook against a Microsoft Dynamics CRM server has Update Rollup 1 installed.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must have the RTM version of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook installed. The version number of the release candidate (RC) is 05.00.9688.53. The RTM version number is 05.00.9688.583 (or a later version).
