You may be unable to access the Windows Update website from Windows 2000 and Windows Update hangs with the message: “Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the website…”

SYMPTOMS
When you try to scan for and install updates on a Windows 2000-based computer, you may be unable to access the Windows Update website successfully, Windows Update will then hang with the following message:
Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the website…

The website uses ActiveX controls to determine which version of software your computer is running. If you see an ActiveX warning, make sure the control is digitally signed by Microsoft before installing it or allowing it to run.
