Assume that you run a query that uses the Search Web service in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Search Server 2010, or in SharePoint Foundation 2010. In this situation, the query times out if it takes more than 10 seconds to return the search results. Additionally, the 10 second time-out value cannot be changed.
For SharePoint Server 2010 or Search Server 2010, apply the following update:

For SharePoint Foundation 2010, apply the following update:
2536591 Description of the SharePoint Foundation 2010 hotfix package (sts-x-none.msp): June 30, 2011
Note You can change the time-out value in the registry after you apply the update.

To set the time-out value after you install the hotfix package, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.
