Considerations for Skype for Business Online when you change an Office 365 sign-in address
- Reschedule Skype for Business Online meetings. Because of the way that the Skype for Business Online service generates meeting URLs, any meetings that were scheduled by using the old Skype for Business Online SIP address must be rescheduled. If these meetings aren't rescheduled, meeting participants may receive an error message when they try to join any Skype for Business Online conferences that are scheduled by that user.
- Communicate changes to external contacts in Skype for Business Online contact lists. External contacts (this includes other federated Lync organizations), Windows Live users, and MSN users must be notified about the change to the user’s SIP address. Until external contacts remove and update the old contact, the contact object for the user is displayed as either Presence Unknown or Offline.
Note The Office 365 Desktop Setup Tool isn't available for mobile devices or Lync 2013.
If you want to manually configure the setting for Lync 2013, see the following Office 365 website:
If the Office 365 organization is using Directory Synchronization and has or previously had a Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Lync Server 2010, or Lync Server 2013 deployment on-premises, the SIP Address can be updated independently by populating the msRTCSIP-PrimaryUserAddress value in Active Directory. Review the following Knowledge Base article to make sure that the values in Office 365 aren't in conflict with on-premises values:
