You cannot delete an Outlook mailbox folder that begins with a special character in its name in an Exchange Server 2010 environment
Consider the following scenario:
- You create a folder by using Microsoft Outlook that is running in online mode in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment.
- The folder name begins with a special character. Specifically, the second byte of this character contains the 0x00 Unicode specification. For example, the folder name begins with the following character:
This issue occurs because Exchange Server 2010 incorrectly handles Unicode characters that have 0x00 in the second byte.
To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
2582113 Description of Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1
To work around the issue, rename the folder, and then delete it.
