When you attempt to use zone files with Unicode strings, the DNS Server service may stop and one of the following error messages may be displayed:
Event ID 4097: The application Dns.exe, generated an application error. The error occurred on date. The exception generated was c0000008 at address 0102499E.
NOTE: This error message occurs only if Dr. Watson is started.
Event ID 7031: The DNS Server service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this x time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No Action.
This behavior occurs because Microsoft DNS Server does not support zone files saved in Unicode format.
To work around this behavior, do not type Unicode entries into the zone file. Instead, type Unicode entries in the DNS graphical user interface (GUI).
