When you enter a phone number for a contact in Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the number appears as a long, unformatted string of numbers. The area codes, city codes, and country codes do not appear as expected, and a call cannot be initiated from the contact. For example, if you type 4255550187, the number does not display as (425) 555-0187. If you double-click the number, the Check Phone Number dialog box appears, and the entire string of numbers appears in the phone number field.
This problem occurs because the Telephony registry keys are missing or damaged.
To resolve this problem, create a new dialing properties location. To do this, follow these steps:
Click AutoDialer, and then click Dialing Properties.
In the I am dialing from section, click Remove. Repeat this step to remove all dialing properties locations.
Click New, type the country or region and area code that you want, make any other changes that are necessary for your location, and then click OK.
