Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • A web application makes a query call to an IBM DB2 database by using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 that is included in Microsoft Host Integration Server.

  • The executionTimeout property in the Web.config web services file is set to a value. For example, the property is set to the default setting of 30 seconds.

  • Internet Information Services (IIS) issues a "thread abort" when the executionTimeout property is exceeded.

In this scenario, heap corruption may occur. Additionally, the call from the web application is not completed.

Cause

This problem may occur in certain timing situations. For example, it may occur when the managed provider switches from managed to unmanaged code to free up objects and an invalid value is returned to the managed code.

Note The exact scenario for this problem is difficult to reproduce.
