How to Remove the Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update after You Upgrade to Outlook 2000If you install the Microsoft Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update on a computer that is running Microsoft Outlook 98, upgrade to Microsoft Outlook 2000, and then use the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove the Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update, you cannot start Outlook 2000 and you receive the following error message:
This problem is not resolved if you restart your computer. To avoid this problem, you must remove the Outlook 98 E-mail Security Update before you upgrade to Outlook 2000. To fix the problem if you have already upgraded to Outlook 2000, run the Detect and Repair tool for the Outlook 2000 installation.
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot initialize Microsoft Office shared utilities. Restart your computer.
Updating Outlook 98 and Then Upgrading to Outlook 2000If you apply the security update to Outlook 98, and you then upgrade to Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2000 SR-1, the 2000 version of the security update is not automatically applied. You must manually apply the Outlook E-mail Security Update to Outlook 2000.
Issues That Affect Administrators and Deployment Scenarios
Multiple Users Are Not UpdatedIf you have a computer that is configured with multiple Windows profiles and you apply the security update to only one user, the security update is not applied when other users log on to the computer. To work around this limitation, you must run Setup again for each user.
