Visio2000: Error 100 When You Open a Saved Visio Drawing
This article was written about products for which Microsoft no longer offers support. Therefore, this article is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
When you open a saved Microsoft Visio drawing, you receive the following error message:
An error (100) occurred during the action Open File. - Visio cannotopen the file because it's not a Visio file.
When you click OK
, you receive the following error message:
Visio cannot open the file because it's not a Visio file.
This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true:
- OLE is not reloaded when you resume from Suspend mode a laptop computer on which Visio is installed.
- Your computer unexpectedly stops responding (hangs) or shuts down while you are working on a Visio drawing.
The information and shapes in a damaged (corrupted) drawing can seldom be recovered.
The best way to protect yourself against the data loss that results from a damageddrawing is to keep backup copies of your diagrams. As an alternate to keeping a separate backup copy, you can work with a copy of the Visio drawing, instead of the original. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Open.
- In the Open dialog box, select a drawing, and then click Copy option.
- Click OK.
: The Copy
option opens a copy of the selected file under a new, generic name. You can edit the file and then choose File Save As
to name and save it.
Microsoft has made available a supported, post-Visio 2000 SR-1 fix that corrects the potential Suspend mode problem. Microsoft Visio U.S. English or International English edition of SR-1 must be installed on each computer to which you apply this update.
