Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have an application that is running on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device.

  • You have a Windows Media Video (.wmv) or Windows Media Audio (.wma) file that stores a very large amount of information in the file header.

  • You use the application to play the file by calling the RenderFile method.

In this scenario, you may experience one of the following symptoms when the application begins to play the file:

  • The application receives the following out of memory error:

    E_OUTOFMEMORY

  • An exception occurs.

Cause

This problem occurs because the system allocates multiple memory locations to store file header information.
