When you try to activate Microsoft Office 2010, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

This issue may occur because a required registry key is not set correctly.

Determine whether the required entry is located in the Windows registry. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type regedit.exe, and then click OK.
In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:

Restart the computer.
Some third-party programs may also use this key. By default, in a typical Windows XP installation, the PartMgr key is the only entry. However, some third-party imaging applications and encryption software may also use this key. Changing this key as described in this article may corrupt the third-party program. To work around this issue, uninstall the program that is responsible for the non-default entry, complete the steps in the "Let me fix it myself" section, and then reinstall the third-party program.
