When a NetDDE client attempts to connect to a DDE server that runs on a Windows 2000-based computer, it may appear to connect successfully, and DdeConnect does not fail. However, when you try to get or put data, there may be no response from the server.
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in theMicrosoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
   Date Time Version Size File name Platform ---------------------------------------------------------------- 09/22/00 06:37PM 5.0.2195.2302 114,000 Netdde.exe I386

To work around this problem and make the connection work, use either of the following methods:
  • Connect to the same DDE server on the same Windows 2000-based computer from a third client computer.
  • Continue to disconnect and reconnect. After an intermittent period of time, the connection may begin to work.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
