186773 Some areas save preferences and other settings as "cookies" on your computer's hard disk when you access the MSN Money Web site
This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
  • The security level of your Internet browser is set too high so that nothing can be written to your computer over the Internet.
  • Your Passport cookie is corrupted.
  • You are using a third-party program that restricts cookies and that prohibits downloading to your computer.
To resolve these issues, use the appropriate method. If you are using a third-party security program, use Method 3. If you are not using a third-party security program, try Method 1, and then Method 2.

Method 1: Security is set too high

Note This resolution assumes that you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 as your default browser. For information about how to download or upgrade Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Privacy tab.
  4. Lower the setting to Medium, and then try to access the site again.

Note If these steps resolve the problem, you can reset the generic Privacy level to a higher level. Then, you can use the ability on the Privacy tab to "override cookie handling for individual Web sites" by clicking the Edit button and then adding the following Web sites as sites that "Allow" cookies:

Method 2: Password cookie is corrupted

Note Use this method if the Privacy level slider under Internet Options is not set to Medium or Lower when you try Method 1.
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click Delete Cookies.

Note Because cookies may store customized information for specific Web sites, deleting all cookies may mean that you have to reset these custom settings at Web sites that you visit. Instead, you can delete only specific cookies. To do this, click Settings, click View Files, and then find and delete the specific cookies that you want.

Method 3: Third-party security program

Turn off any third-party security programs when you want to use your MSN Money Investing portfolio.
For more information about how to set security levels in Internet Explorer 6, on the Internet Explorer Help menu, click Contents and Index. On the Index tab, in the keyword box, type privacy. In the list of topics, click change settings, and then click change privacy settings.
