If a Web page contains a link to a Microsoft Office document and that link is contained in a frame, you cannot save the document in its original format if you activate the document in the frame. You can save the document only in HTML format.

To work around this behavior, and save the document in its original format, you must open the file in a new window. You can open a document in a new window using one of the following steps:
- Right-click the link, and then click Open in New Window.
- Configure the link on the server to open a new window by typing _ (blank) at the end of the link.
- Configure the client computers to open all document links in a new window.
If you do not want to use one of the workarounds, a fix is available and is included in Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 (SP2). After you apply the fix, you have to click Away from in the document when it is open in the frame, and then use the tab key to retrieve the focus to the document. After the document has regained the focus, you are able to save it in the documents original format.
