Symptoms

Assume that you try to generate an Offline Address Book (OAB) in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment that has multiple domains. In this situation, the operation fails, and the following events are logged in the Application log:


Additionally, one of the following event IDs is logged in the Application log:


Note Error code "8004010e" corresponds to a MAPI_E_NOT_ENOUGH_RESOURCES error.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Active Directory contains some mail-enabled objects that have lingering objects or lingering links in certain attributes. Therefore, the Exchange OAB generation fails with the MAPI_E_NOT_ENOUGH_RESOURCES error.

Note A Lingering link is a linked attribute that contains the Distinguished Names (DN) of an object that no longer exists in the Active Directory.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

After you install Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2), an event message is logged when you try to generate an OAB. This event helps determine the Active Directory mail-enabled objects that have lingering objects or lingering links. This event resembles the following:
