"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error when users try to open an Office document by using an Office Web App and Office Online Server

Symptoms
Assume that you create an Office Online farm, and you use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the server as the Internal URL of the farm. For example, you run the following command to create an Office Online farm:
New-OfficeWebAppsFarm –InternalURL "http://servername.domain.com" –AllowHttp –EditingEnabled
When users try to open an Office document by using an Office Web App, they receive the following error message:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Note This issue does not occur if you use the NetBIOS name of the server (such as http://servername) as the Internal URL of the farm.
Cause
This issue occurs because Windows Internet Explorer uses a manual proxy setting instead of the Auto Detect proxy settings. Additionally, the proxy server cannot resolve the internal URL of the Office Online farm.

When a user tries to open an Office document by using an Office Web App or Office Online Server, Internet Explorer accesses the internal URL of the Office Online farm. If the internal URL is an FQND, then the URL is treated as an Internet domain. Therefore, Internet Explorer redirects the name resolution request of the FQDN to the proxy server.
Resolution
If you are an administrator, use one of the following methods to resolve the issue:

Method 1

Deploy the following policy to add the internal URL of the Office Online farm to the exception list of the proxy server:

\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Connection\Proxy Settings

Method 2

Deploy the following policy to add the internal URL of the Office Online farm to the Local Intranet Zone:

\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page\Site to Zone Assignment List

If you are an end-user, use one of following methods to resolve the issue:

Method 1

Manually configure Internet Explorer to add the internal URL of the Office Online farm to the exception list of the proxy server. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Control Panel, and then click Internet Options.
  2. On the Connections tab, click LAN settings.
  3. Click to select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box.
  4. Click Advanced, and then type the internal URL of the Office Online farm in the Exception box.

Method 2

Manually configure Internet Explorer to add the internal URL of the Office Online farm to the Local Intranet Zone. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Control Panel, and then click Internet Options.
  2. On the Security tab, click Local intranet, and then click Sites.
  3. Click Advanced, and then add the internal URL of the Office Online Farm to the list.
