Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You set the DWORD value of the DhcpGlobalMaxRetries registry entry to a high value on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device. For example, you set the DWORD value in the following registry subkey to "0fffffff":

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Parms]
    Note You can also set the DhcpMaxRetries registry entry to a high value for a specific network adapter.

  • You try to connect the network adapter to a network that does not have a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. For example, you try to connect the network adapter to a hub.

In this scenario, the DHCP client on the device floods the network with DHCP DISCOVER packets.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previous updates for this product are installed.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

  • On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.

  • On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace any other updates.

The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time.
