You configure a multi-node failover cluster to run Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
About 100 to 250 cluster disks are connected to the multi-node failover cluster.
You run the storage tests that are part of the cluster validation tests on the cluster by using the "Validate a Configuration" wizard.
In this situation, a validate simultaneous failover test fails, and an error message that resembles one of the following is displayed in the validation report:
Failed to online cluster disk <disk number> from node <host name>, failure reason: Cannot complete this function.
Failed to offline cluster disk <disk number> from node <host name>, failure reason: Cannot complete this function. Failed to release cluster disk <disk number> from node <host name>, failure reason: Cannot complete this function.
Additionally, an error message that resembles the following is displayed in the ValidateStorage.log file:
VerifyDiskReserveState: Exit VerifyDiskReserveState: Status 1003
Note If you reduce the number of cluster disks, this issue is less likely to occur.
This issue is caused by a race condition that occurs between the allocation and release of a file handle. When a file handle is associated with one of the disks (disk 1), the file handle is released and allocated to another one of the disks (disk 2) during the arbitration stage. Therefore, when the file handle is used to search disk 2 during the offline stage, disk 1 values are returned instead of disk 2 values.
Note When you run the validate simultaneous failover test on multiple disks, each disk completes the arbitrate, online, offline, and release stages.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

To use the hotfix, you do not have to change the registry.
You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
Hotfix replacement information

The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time together with your current daylight saving time (DST) bias.
