Lync Server : AutoInitateContacts is set to False

The AutoInitiateContacts parameter is a part of the Microsoft Lync privacy configuration When the property AutoInitiateContacts is set to True, then team members will automatically be added to each user’s Contacts list, if set to False, team members will not be automatically be added to each user’s Contacts list. The Microsoft Lync client receives the privacy setting as part of the in-band provisioning from the Lync Server.

Based on the value of the AutoInitiateContacts parameter and the organizational information available in the address book (either via web search or download) the client will populate the Frequent Contacts list with members from user's team.Microsoft Lync client will create contacts for the user's manager and any direct reports only.

Use the steps listed below to enable the Lync AutoInitiateContacts feature:

Using Server 2008 or Server 2008 R2

  1. Click on Start, All Programs, Microsoft Lync Server 
  2. Choose Lync Server Management Shell
Using Server 2012
  1. Press the Windows logo key to access the Start Page
  2. Click on the Lync Server Management Shell tile
Use the following Lync Server PowerShell cmdlet to enable AutoInitiateContacts

Set-CsPrivacyConfiguration -Identity Global -AutoIntiateContact $True
