"Update your browser settings and try again" error when you try to buy Office

Symptoms
When trying to purchase an Office suite online, such as Office 365 Home, you may get an error on the billing page that says:

"Sorry, we couldn’t complete your purchase. Please use the following information to update your browser settings and try again: Updating browser settings.”


Resolution
Adding https://*.live.com and https://*.office.com to Trusted sites in Internet Explorer can solve the error.

Here's how you can add the https://*.live.com and https://*.office.com domains as trusted sites:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab, and choose Trusted sites.
  4. Click Sites.
  5. Type https://*.live.com in the Add this website to the zone field, and then click Add.
  6. Repeat step 5, but type https://*.office.com
  7. Click Close, and then click OK.
You may also need to add the domain to the Local Intranet security zone. To do this:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab, and choose Local intranet.
  4. Click Sites.
  5. Click Advanced.
  6. Type https://*.live.com in the Add this website to the zone field, and then click Add.
  7. Repeat step 6, but type https://*.office.com
  8. Click Close, and then click OK twice.
