Event ID 30700 is logged in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 when you try to connect to a server that is running an SMB service

Symptoms
Assume that you try to connect to a compliant server that is running the server message block 3.0 (SMB) service from a client computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. Additionally, assume that the server does not support the SMB Multichannel feature. In this situation, an event that resembles the following is logged in the System log on the client computer:

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-SMBClient
Event ID: 30700
Level: Warning
Description:
The server <Computer Name> does not support multichannel.

Notes
  • By default, Windows Server 2012 enables the Multichannel feature. The SMB Multichannel feature is not required to support the SMB 3.0 protocol. You can also disable this feature by using a registry key.
  • If this event is logged when you connect to a third-party SMB 3.0 implementation product, the event does not imply any defect in the third-party product.

Resolution
After you apply this hotfix, the severity of the event is changed from a Warning event to an Information event.
