"Sorry, an error has occurred" when you try to install the Yammer Desktop Application

PROBLEM
When you try to install or update the Yammer Desktop Application, you receive the following error message:
Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because an application with that name already exists at the selected installation location. Try installing to a different location.
SOLUTION
Note The Yammer Desktop Application will be decommissioned on or around April 15, 2014 and the ability to access Yammer by using the existing application will be removed. A new Windows Desktop Notifier App was released that provides a more streamlined experience for the desktop. To download the Desktop Notifier App, go to the following website:
To resolve this issue, remove and reinstall the Yammer Desktop Application. To do this in Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Exit the Yammer Desktop Application.
  2. Uninstall the application by following these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Click Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features, and then select Yammer.
    3. Click the Change/Remove button.
  3. If it exists, delete the Yammer folder from one of the following locations:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Adobe\AIR\ELS
    • Windows Vista and Windows 7: C:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS
  4. Download the Yammer Desktop Application from the following Yammer website:
  5. Click Download the Yammer App to reinstall the application.

To do this in Mac OS, follow these steps:
  1. Exit the Yammer Desktop Application.
  2. Uninstall the Yammer.air application by dragging it to the trash.
  3. If they exist, delete the following folders:
    • /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/Yammer
    • /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/Yammer.2782AD3EDB99182DA9E10666691F7E39C8DBA6A3.1
  4. Download the Yammer Desktop Application from the following Yammer website:
