After you change to Outline view, when you click Alignment, Indentation, Spacing, or Line and Page Breaks in the Paragraph section of the Reveal Formatting task pane, the Paragraph dialog box does not appear.
NOTE: When you click Format on the menu bar, Paragraph is unavailable (dimmed).
NOTE: To change to Outline view, click Outline on the View menu.
This functionality is by design in Microsoft Word. In outline view, paragraph formatting (for example, alignment, indentation, spacing, and line and page breaks) is not displayed.
To work around this functionality, change to a different view. For example, change to print layout view (click Print Layout on the View menu).
To display the Reveal Formatting task pane, do one of the following:
- On the Help menu, click What's This?, and then click the text in your document.
- On the View menu, click Task Pane. In the task pane, use the Forward or Back arrow (upper-left corner of the task pane) to change to the Reveal Formatting task pane.
For more information about outline view, click Microsoft Word Help on the Help menu, type outline view in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
